Lucas laid down on the fountain, the sound of the water rushing through his ear. It felt so peaceful under the warm sun in his white t-shirt and khaki shorts. The breeze would play with his hair as giggling girls walked by a million miles away. Or so it seemed. That is, until one walked up and blocked his sun. "Hey! What's the big id-" he said but stopped short when he saw who it was and instantly his lips split into a wide grin.

Lucy looked down at Lucas, "What was that, doll?" she asked, "Want to finish your sentence now?" she asked, still, giggling lightly. Lucy sat down beside him, or .. near him and folded herself into a comfortable pretzel position. She smiled as she watched him, how cute he was.

Lucas quickly sat up, looking at her. "I was just going to say... Whats the big idea with you're beautiful self blinding me like that. I mean, someone as hot as you really should give a guy fair warning before doing that." He said with a childish grin. "It's been too long Luce. What have you been up to?"

Lucy giggled playfully and couldn't help but to smile. She outstretched a hand and ruffled Lucas's hair, "Good cover up, Luke," she said, her teeth visible in a wide smile, "It has been forever. What have you been up to lately?"

Luke pulled away, dipping his fingertips into the water and flicking some at her. "Oh, not much. Girls this. Basketball that. You know, the usual." He said with a small smile. "What about you? Got anywhere yet? I mean, last time I saw you, you still had no boyfriend."

"Yeah, we know you," she said, giggling, "Well, since you make me sound like a dud, I guess I still am one," she said, sighing, "All I've got going for me is my graphic design and photography career, my friends, and.." She said, stopping. Her and Aiden were talking, but not dating.. yet.

Lucas laughed slightly. "Aw, come on Luce. You know I was kidding. We always used to have so much fun. I guess life has just been keeping us busy." He said, looking away and becoming a bit more serious. "So, who is he?"

"Yeah, busy with school work. Well me, maybe not you," she said, giggling, "How did you know?" she asked, but didn't wait for him to answer. She didn't want to do that. She bit down on her lip and was soon playing with her lip ring out of nervousness. Just like Aiden did. Lucille sighed, "His name is Aiden," she said, tilting her head, "And that's all you need to know."

"It's obvious. Just the way you are acting. There's someone." He replied quickly, and shook his head at the name. He hadn't met him, though it was already becoming obvious that he wouldn't like the guy. It was just his style to not like many people. Unfortunately, he was also extremely protective of his friends, especially Lucy. "All I need to know, huh? Come on, Luce, you know me better than that. One way or another, I'll find out everything on this guy that I need to know."

Lucy sighed. She hated it when Lucas got like this- he was much too jealous. "Luke, why does it matter? We aren't.. uhm.. like dating anymore," she said, "We're just friends.." she said, then added in a small, quiet voice, "With benefits."
Lucy bit down on her lip and stared at the water of the fountain. It was splashing lightly and wetting her slightly, but she didn't mind one bit. She looked at Lucas with expectant eyes, waiting for an explanation. It always came down to this.

"It will always be like this. And no, we aren't dating. But, I still care about you Luce. That won't change." He said, and sighed. He hated to bring up a hard subject, but she really left him no choice. "Look, I messed up kissing Jessica. It was an asshole thing to do. But, we're friends. And, as your friend, if any guy hurts you, that automatically gives me grounds to beat the crap out of him...got it?"

"That isn't fair, Luke. I have so many guy friends, and none of them plan on beating the crap out of any guy that hurts me. Look," she said, "Me and Aiden are just friends as of right now, we aren't dating.. yet, or anything," she bit down on her lip, "I don't think he is going to hurt me, but there is nothing that I can do about you or him. Fighting, or whatever. Do what you want," she said, realizing that there was no way that she would be able to stop Luke from doing anything.
She bit down on her lip, and felt fierce. Lucy closed her eyes and swallowed hard. She turned away and felt her eyes tear up but didn't cry. Her and Luke had so much going, until he kissed Jessica.

Lucas turned away, furious. This was driving him up the wall. He just wanted to look out for her. He cared about her. That was a fact he could live with. That night though, he had gotten pretty messed up, and Jessica had come around. Go figure for Luke to go falling fast and lose control. And then it had all went downhill from there. Not seeing Lucy for a long time, dating a new girl every day;every week.
"I'm sorry Luce. I just...I care. That's all. And, I just don't want to see any guy hurt you like I did. Sometimes I just wish I could beat the crap out of myself for it. I messed up. I'm sorry." He said, looking at his reflection in the water.

Lucy sighed, "I understand," she said, then looked up at Luke, "Do you remember what I once told you? That no matter how much you hurt me or what you said to make me mad, I would always be able to forgive you no matter what," she said, then tilted her head, "You remember that, Luke?"

Lucas nodded slightly, determined to not look at her. "Of course I do. Doesn't mean I can't be mad at myself for messing up." He said, turning around to face the water and dunking his head into the cold liquid. It felt good on his face before he pulled back out, running his haqnds across his face and through his hair.
